Founded in the UK in 2007, Alto Private Clients — operating under the Alto Private Clients group — is one of the few wealth management firms in Europe with the regulatory reach and operational infrastructure to support international financial advisers across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously.
Our core business is the delivery of high-quality financial planning and investment management to expatriate and cross-border private clients. This heritage means we understand, from direct experience, the regulatory complexity that international advisers navigate every day — and we have built our appointed representative platform to resolve it.
Where other networks operate within a single regulatory perimeter, the Alto Global AR Platform allows advisers to work under one umbrella across the UK, Europe and the UAE — with a single relationship, a single set of operating standards, and dedicated support in each jurisdiction. For advisers with a client base that crosses borders, this is not merely convenient. It is transformative.
Alto Private Clients Limited is authorised and regulated by the FCA in the UK (FRN 527557). The Dubai branch is authorised and regulated by CMA (Reg.608032). In Malta, Alto Private Clients is a trading name of ACM (Europe) Limited, authorised and regulated by the Malta Financial Services Authority (C26673).
The FCA’s enhanced oversight regime for principal firms, introduced in 2024, places increased demands on networks to demonstrate robust supervision, adequate resources and clear lines of accountability. We welcome those standards — they raise the bar for the sector and reinforce the value of joining a principal with genuine depth and experience.
For many advisers, the appointed representative route is not simply a pragmatic shortcut to market. It is a considered and commercially sound long-term arrangement that allows them to focus on what they do best — building client relationships and delivering financial planning of genuine quality — while a robust principal takes care of the regulatory and operational infrastructure.
What makes the Alto Global AR Platform different is the breadth of its regulatory footprint. The majority of AR arrangements in the UK operate within a single jurisdiction. For advisers whose clients cross borders — as is increasingly the case in an era of global mobility — a single-jurisdiction network creates structural limitations that are difficult to resolve without significant additional cost and compliance overhead.
Alto has spent seventeen years building the regulatory licences, the operational infrastructure, the technology and the adviser services needed to support a genuinely international practice. Joining the platform means that infrastructure is immediately available to you.
One relationship, one set of standards, five jurisdictions. Whether your clients are in the UK, the UAE or mainland Europe, the platform has you covered without the cost of separate licences.
AR status allows you to carry on regulated activities without navigating the FCA’s direct authorisation process, which typically takes six to twelve months. The platform can have you operational in a fraction of that time.
Compliance, oversight and regulatory reporting are managed by the principal firm. You remain client-focused and commercially active, while Alto maintains regulatory accountability.
Our practice buyout programme and succession planning support ensure that the business you have built has long-term value — for you, your clients, and ultimately your estate.
The Alto brand, our Trustpilot score of 4.8 and our Chartered and CFP-accredited adviser base provide an immediately credible standard under which to operate your client-facing business.
We recognise that no two practices are the same. The platform supports employed, self-employed and corporate AR structures, with fee arrangements designed to reflect the scale and stage of your business.
Membership of the Alto Global AR Platform is not simply a regulatory arrangement. It is access to a comprehensive infrastructure that supports every dimension of a growing advisory practice.
Full principal firm oversight including AR agreements, FCA registration, ongoing compliance monitoring and an annual review programme. Our compliance team provides guidance on Consumer Duty, suitability, financial promotions and regulatory change — so you are never managing these questions in isolation.
Access to a structured CPD programme designed to meet the ongoing learning requirements of the FCA, MFSA and SCA. Webinars, workshops and written content covering regulatory updates, product knowledge, technical planning and practice management — all recordable and verifiable.
Our in-house research team produces regular technical commentary across pensions, tax, estate planning and investments, covering UK, European and UAE regulatory environments. Members receive priority access to insight publications, planning guides and jurisdiction-specific technical notes.
Dedicated business development support from a team with deep experience in the international advisory market. Lead generation assistance, referral network introductions, marketing collateral support and co-branding opportunities — designed to help you grow your practice, not just maintain it.
AR members gain access to WealthVault, Alto’s proprietary wealth management app, enabling clients to view their entire financial picture in one place. The platform also provides back-office integrations, digital fact-find and client reporting tools — institutional-grade technology available from day one.
A suite of tools and resources to support your practice through each stage of growth: from launching as an AR, through client base expansion, to managing the complexity that comes with a maturing international practice. Includes operational templates, client communication frameworks and governance support.
Through Alto’s stockbroking division, AR members can offer clients a highly personalised or technology-enabled execution dealing service. Both advisory and discretionary models are available, backed by custody at one of the world’s largest global custodians, and supported by institutional-quality portfolio management tools.
For advisers considering an exit or transition, Alto’s practice buyout programme provides a clear, professionally managed pathway to realise the value in your client book. We approach buyouts with a partnership mindset: protecting client outcomes, preserving adviser legacy and ensuring continuity of service throughout the transition.
Contact our AR team to discuss your practice, your jurisdictional requirements and your commercial objectives. We will explain the platform in detail and help you determine which jurisdictional tier is most appropriate.
As a responsible principal, we conduct thorough due diligence on all prospective ARs — reviewing your qualifications, regulatory history, business model and client profile. This process protects you, your clients and the integrity of the platform.
Upon successful due diligence, we enter into a written AR Agreement that precisely defines the scope of your permitted activities. We notify the FCA (and relevant overseas regulators) and register you under our principal firm entry on the relevant registers.
The process of joining the Alto Global AR Platform is designed to be straightforward, transparent and efficient — without sacrificing the rigour that a responsible principal firm must apply. Below is an overview of the four stages from initial enquiry to operational status.
The Alto Global AR Platform is designed for qualified, experienced financial advisers and advisory firms who are committed to delivering excellent client outcomes and operating to the highest professional standards. We are particularly well placed to support:
Independent financial advisers with an international client base seeking a multi-jurisdictional regulatory home
Advisers relocating from overseas who need to establish or re-establish UK regulatory status quickly
Experienced advisers seeking an alternative to the cost and complexity of direct FCA authorisation
Adviser firms with an existing client base looking to expand into the UAE or European markets
Practices seeking a practice buyout, succession partner or structured wind-down arrangement
Wealth management professionals transitioning from a bank or institutional background to independent practice
We maintain high standards for AR membership, consistent with the FCA’s expectations of a responsible principal. Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
Relevant professional qualifications — ideally Level 4 Diploma or above; CFP or CISI designation holders are particularly welcome
A clean regulatory record with no upheld complaints, FCA investigations or disciplinary findings
A clearly defined business model and client proposition that falls within the scope of permitted AR activities
Sufficient professional indemnity insurance, or willingness to arrange this prior to appointment
Commitment to meeting our CPD requirements and engaging with the platform’s compliance processes
Alignment with Alto’s values of transparency, client focus and professional excellence
